intensive outpatient programs for adults

Be Collaborative Care’s Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) provide a supportive, mixed-gender recovery environment designed for adults 18 and older who are navigating anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, compulsive overexercise, or ARFID. These programs offer compassionate, structured care that helps clients strengthen recovery while maintaining daily responsibilities.

about our programs

We offer both Daytime and Evening IOP options, allowing clients to choose the schedule that best fits their needs. Both programs include meal support and group therapy sessions designed to address the physical, emotional, and relational challenges of eating disorders.

Each group is centered on building healthy coping skills, fostering self-acceptance, developing body positivity, and helping clients strengthen their inner voice. The goal is to provide a recovery toolbox filled with practical skills and meaningful resources to support long-term well-being.

how IOP can help

Our IOPs are designed for individuals who need more structure than weekly outpatient therapy but who may not require the intensity of residential or partial hospitalization care. These programs are ideal for:

  • Adults transitioning from a higher level of care who need ongoing support and consistency.

  • Those who find that outpatient therapy sessions are not enough to fully support their recovery.

  • Individuals struggling with preoccupation around food, weight, or exercise that disrupts daily life.

  • Anyone experiencing guilt, shame, or anxiety related to eating who could benefit from more structured support.

  • Clients seeking a community of peers who understand the challenges of recovery and can provide encouragement along the way.

By participating in IOP, clients receive the guidance, skills, and support they need to move forward in recovery while maintaining important connections to work, school, or family life.

about our approach

We believe that effective treatment combines evidence-based therapies with holistic and experiential practices. Our IOP integrates a wide range of modalities, including:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-e)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Holistic and interpersonal therapies

  • Psychoeducational groups

  • Expressive art and movement therapies

assessment philosophy

Be Collaborative Rhode Island offers comprehensive eating disorder treatment with a multidisciplinary team approach. Each client undergoes a thorough assessment that includes biological, psychological, and social evaluations, as well as dietitian-led meal assessments and specialized movement assessments for athletes and individuals experiencing eating disorder symptoms. Each assessment is completed by an expert, including license therapist, registered dietitian, psychiatrist, and athlete expert.

Following the assessment, our team recommends the appropriate level of care tailored to each client’s unique needs. We then design a customized program schedule to support their recovery journey with compassion, expertise, and individualized attention.

Biopsychosocial Assessment

This comprehensive evaluation explores the biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to disordered eating. It includes medical history, mental health background, family dynamics, trauma history, and social support systems. The goal is to understand the full context of a client’s experience to guide personalized treatment planning.

Dietitian Assessment

Led by a registered dietitian, this assessment focuses on the client’s nutritional intake, eating patterns, beliefs about food, and history of dieting or restriction. It also identifies nutrient deficiencies, food-related fears, and behaviors such as binge eating or compensatory practices, providing insight into the role food plays in the client’s overall health and relationship with their body.

Psychiatry Evaluation

A psychiatric evaluation assesses co-occurring mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, OCD, or trauma-related disorders. It also evaluates mood stability, medication needs, and cognitive functioning. This helps ensure that any psychiatric components contributing to the eating disorder are addressed within a coordinated care plan.

Exercise & Movement Assessment

This evaluation examines the client’s relationship with physical activity, including compulsive exercise, injury risk, and movement avoidance. Special attention is given to athletes or individuals with a history of performance-focused exercise. The goal is to promote body respect and develop a balanced, supportive approach to movement in recovery.
